Thailand has decided to extend the waiver on visa-on-arrival fee for citizens of particular nations in order to attract more foreign tourists during the traditional lunar New Year of some Asian countries which falls on February 5.

The waiver on the 2,000-baht (about 60 USD) visa-on-arrival fee for nationals for 20 counties was set end on January.13. It started in last November.

The Thai government expects the extension to benefit foreign tourists, and draw them to Thailand during the lunar New Year in early February and the water splashing festival in the mid-April.

According to the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, Thailand received over 34 million international visitors, up by 7.53 percent over the same period of last year, generating an estimated 1.8 billion baht in tourism revenue, up by 9.79 percent.

In 2018, Thailand was named the most popular international destination in the world for the fifth time by Mastercard. - VNA
