Tran Le Tuan, Chairman of the Da Nang Port Joint Stock Company, said that Da Nang Port handled more than 8 million tonnes of cargo in 2017, a year-on-year surge of 11%. The port aims to raise its throughput in 2018 to 8.5 million tonnes, including 380,000 TEUs (20-foot equivalent unit) of containers.

Da Nang Port has affirmed its position as a leading port in the central region and one of the most modern ports in Vietnam, he said.

The port also made significant contributions to the city’s tourism development when it welcomed 82 cruise ships with nearly 148,000 tourists and crew members onboard in 2017, up 17% in the number of ships and 8% of visitors compared to the previous year.

Over the past five years, the port has recorded an annual growth of 12.5% in cargo handling. In particular, container handling has seen a stable expansion of 21%.

Currently, the port serves about 24 container ships a week. World’s leading container transport firms have been present at the port like Wanhai, Maersk Lines, Evergreen, MSC, SITC and Yangmin.

According to the Ministry of Transport, Da Nang city’s port system, including Tien Sa, Lien Chieu and Son Tra, will handle 29 million tonnes of cargo by 2030.
