Members of the Vietnam Association of Motorcycle Manufacturers (VAMM) sold more than 3.2 million motorcycles in 2017, marking a year-on-year increase of 4.8 percent.

The association, including five members of Piaggio Vietnam, Suzuki Vietnam, SYM Vietnam, Yamaha Motor Vietnam and Honda Vietnam, provides the Vietnamese market with a wide range of products such as scooters and sport motorcycles.

According to reports, Honda Vietnam occupies the largest market share of more than 60 percent. It is followed by Piaggio Vietnam and others.

Last year, the market witnessed the growth of motor scooters. With the average income of the Vietnamese people increasing, they chose motor scooters rather than manual transmission motorcycles. For example, Yamaha Vietnam sold 177,025 motor scooters last year, up 15 percent compared with 2016, occupying 11.3 percent of the market share for motor scooters.

Motorcycle manufacturers also developed motorbikes with high engine displacement. Yamaha has rolled out YZF-R3, followed by the naked bike version MT-03. In addition to this, the brand also has some other sports-oriented products such as TFX or YZF-R15.

Meanwhile, Honda also prepared for the distribution of the Rebel 300, previously the Honda SH300i. Piaggio sold the Vespa GTS Super 300, while it is planning to introduce Moto Guzzi and Aprilia to the market. Currently, Suzuki’s GSX-S1000 and V-Strom 1000 models are also in the list of vehicles with high engine displacement.-VNA
