Nguyen Kim Trading Joint Stock Co. has requested the Ministry of Finance to correct the inaccurate information about its tax debt the ministry announced on its website.

In a document sent to the ministry and the General Department of Taxation, Nguyen Kim asked for a removal of its name from the list of tax debtors seen on the website as well as a clarification about its tax debt of VND83.9 billion by June 30.

The firm said the document enclosed all the papers as evidence of it fulfilling all tax obligations. The tax division of District 1 in HCMC said the tax debt information was false and attributed this to tax management software problems.

An executive of Nguyen Kim told the Daily that the company was waiting for a reply from relevant agencies.

In addition to Nguyen Kim, Him Lam Land, The Gioi Di Dong and many others of the 200 enterprises listed as tax debtors by the HCMC Tax Department said they had fulfilled their tax obligations.

Nguyen Tuan Kiet, chief accountant at Him Lam Land Co., told the Daily that his company owed no tax. “We even paid more than required as our corporate income tax payments last year were higher than the amount needed and the surplus would be used for our tax payment this year.”

Meanwhile, according to the list of tax debtors posted on the website of the Ministry of Finance, Him Lam Land had owed VND24.07 billion as of May 30.

According to Kiet, he had worked with District 1’s tax office and the office had admitted the information was false due to management system errors. The office has reported the case to the General Department of Taxation.

A representative of An Phuoc Garment, Embroidery and Shoes Co. Ltd. also said the company did not owe VND5.25 billion as reported by the tax department.

The amount of VND5.25 billion belonged to previous years and was already paid by An Phuoc. However, the new tax payment system has not updated the company’s payment, according to the representative.

Speaking to the Daily, Le Xuan Duong, deputy head of the HCMC Tax Department, said the list of 200 corporate tax debtors was compiled from data of the electronic tax management program updated as of June 30.

According to Duong, as the program has some errors, some information is inaccurate. Therefore, when enterprises show evidence of their tax payments, the department will make adjustments.

At a review meeting on July 14, leaders of the tax department in HCMC said some errors with the system had made the calculations of tax arrears owed by enterprises wrong. Part of the tax arrears of VND22.94 trillion recorded by the system as of June 30 was incorrect.

Earlier, the Ministry of Finance announced a list of 600 firms owing large amounts of taxes until June 30, Vietnam News Agency reports.
