Credit growth continues to be sluggish, dipping 1.71% in the first four months as demand for credit remains weak. However, the banking system is flushed with cash, raising the possibility for a further drop in interest rates. Trade deficit of only USD176 million in the first four months will help keep the VND stable.
We forecast May CPI to drop to 8.37% YoY this month.
